Hares Ear

Hares Ear Fly Tying Instructions

The Hares Ear is the best well rounded nymph pattern.  The Gold Ribbed Hares Ear imitates nearly every insect in the river.  Originally designed to be a mayfly nymph, the Hares Ear is also a great small stonefly nymph or caddis larva.  The Hares Ear gets it’s name from the use of a Hares (rabbit) Mask.  The mask is used for the tail and body of the fly (although synthetics can be substituted).  The Hares Ear is most often tied in the original tan color, but is also very effective in olive as well.  One of the best classics ever invented!
