Herter’s Bastard Midge

Herter’s Bastard Midge Fly Tying Video Instructions

Herter's Bastard Midge Dry Fly Tying Recipe InstructionsThe Herter’s Bastard Midge is a great midge emerger dry fly pattern.  The tail of the Herter’s Bastard Midge imitates the trailing shuck of an emerging midge adult from the pupae casing.  The Elk Hair on the Herter’s Bastard Midge imitates the antennae and the legs of the midge adult as it is breaking free of the trailing shuck.  The Herter’s Bastard Midge has traditionally been tied in red, but it also works well in black, grey and cream!
