Skinny Nelson Fly Tying Instructions
The Skinny Nelson is a slim profiled mayfly nymph. It works well in tailwaters and on picky trout. The Skinny Nelson can be tied with or without a bead, if you do use a bead a black one is best. The Skinny Nelson also works the best when it is tied in sizes #18-22. You can also use different colors. Olive, Yellow or brown thread can be substituted to imitate a more specific mayfly.
The distinct ribbing and slim profile is what sets the Skinny Nelson apart from other flies. Small Baetis Mayflies have thin bodies and a very segmented body. The majority of the bulk is on the thorax and legs, exactly like the Skinny Nelson. The Skinny Nelson is a great fly for the beginner or intermediate tier to tie. Have fun with it!
