X2 Caddis

X2 Caddis Fly Tying Instructions

The X2 Caddis is the new and improved version of the Elk Hair Caddis.  The X2 Caddis sits flush with the surface of the water.  This gives the X2 Caddis a better profile from the fish’s point of view.  The X2 Caddis also uses synthetic Antron for the tail (shuck).  This imitates a trailing shuck or the emerger casing.  The emerging caddis is a much easier meal for trout.  The ribbing on the body is a strand of Krystal Flash, which adds a little flash.

The bleached elk hair wing allows you to easily see the X2 Caddis from a distance.  To the right is a picture of the caddis adult.  You can see the resemblance in the wing and profile.  The caddis actually has a fairly slim body, so you must be careful not to add too much dubbing.  The X2 is best in tan and olive.  The X2 Caddis can be tied in other colors to match a specific hatch, such as a black caddis hatch.
