Best Bonefish Flies Fly Tying Videos

Bonecrusher

The Bonecrusher is a incredible small Bonefish fly.  The Bonecrusher can be tied in several different sizes and colors.  In this video we tie the Bonecrusher in the most popular “Shrimpy” color.  The Bonecrusher is the perfect Bonefish Fly for the Bahamas, Mexico and Florida.  The Bonecrusher can be tied with Beadchain or Lead Eyes, depending on the depth of the flat.  The Bonecrusher can be tied in many colors, just simply change the color of the D-Rib and the Pseudo Hair wing.  The Bonecrusher is a must have in any Bonefish Fly Box!  Fun to tie too!!

EP Turneffe Crab

The EP Turneffe Micro Crab is a great micro crab pattern for Bonefish, Permit, Redfish and picky Triggerfish!  The EP Turneffe Crab can be tied in several color variations.  Olive, Tan, Sand and Brown are the most common and the most effective colors.  The EP Turneffe Crab is best tied small, usually in sizes #04-08.  This is a great pattern when things get technical and the fish refuse all your other patterns!!

Bonefish Scampi

The Bonefish Scampi was developed by Henry Cowen and is a favorite among the many Bonefish anglers.  One of the reasons the Bonefish Scampi works so well is due to  it’s lifelike movement.  The rabbit strip in the Bonefish Scampi pulsates and moves in the tidal currents and waves.  Even when the Bonefish Scampi is not being moved!  The Bonefish Scampi imitates a small shrimp, one of the favorite meals for hungry Bonefish.

MacVay’s Gotcha

The Bonefish Gotcha is one of the simplest and most effective Bonefish flies out there.  Developed by Jim McVay, the Bonefish Gotcha is so versatile because it can be tied in multiple colors, different amounts of weight and in many sizes.  The Bonefish Gotcha uses all synthetic materials, making it very lifelike and durable.  The Bonefish Gotcha is most often tied in sizes #01-08, but can be tied larger for big bonefish!

Spam And Eggs

The Spam and Eggs is bonefish fly pattern developed for large Bonefish by Coach Duff in Hawaii.  The Spam and Eggs imitates a Mantis Shrimp, which is one of the largest food sources for Big Hawaiian Bonefish.  The Spam and Eggs signature look is the spider like legs that splay out to each side.  These legs move and undulate in the current, which entices the fish to eat.  The Spam and Eggs can also be tied in Olive colors.  But the Tan color is the most popular and effective.  A must have in any Hawaiian Bonefish fly box!

Crazy Leg Gotcha

The Crazy Leg Gotcha is a great variation of the traditional Bonefish Gotcha Fly Pattern.  I prefer the Crazy Leg Gotcha over the traditional Bonefish flies.  The Crazy Legs add more color and life to the fly, and I believe the Bonefish also love it more!  The Hot Tipped Crazy Legs are my favorite legs for the Gotcha, but you can choose your favorite colors to use.  Check out the video and learn how to tie the Crazy Leg Bonefish Gotcha Fly.

Squimp

The Bonefish Squimp is a deadly little bonefish fly. The Squimp very closely imitates a small shrimp, which is the main forage for any bonefish. The Squimp can be tied in many color variations, but the traditional tan is the most popular and the most effective. The Squimp can be tied with heavy or light eyes, depending on the depth of the flat and the spookiness of the fish. The Squimp is an absolute must have bonefish fly for any flat fisherman!

Meko Special

The Meko Special is a great little bonefish fly developed by Omeko Glinton.  The Meko Special works great on all flats species including Redfish, Sheephead and Permit.  The Meko Special imitates a small shrimp and can be tied with either beadchain or lead eyes depending on the depth of the water.  The Meko Special is extremely easy to tie, this makes it great for beginners.  The Meko is also great for guides.  They are fast and cheap to tie.  Making the Meko a go to pattern for many saltwater anglers!!

Crazy Charlie

The Crazy Charlie is regarded as one of the best Bonefish flies ever tied.  The Crazy Charlie is a classic fly of sorts, a least for Bonefish.  The Crazy Charlie is one of the more simple bonefish flies that can be tied, but do not underestimate it.  The Crazy Charlie is still a widely used and deadly fly.   The Crazy Charlie can be tied in many colors and sizes, with a #06 being the most popular.  The Crazy Charlie can be tied in Tan, Pink, Chartreuse, Orange, White, Yellow, Olive and Brown!

The Bonefish Special is a classic Bonefish fly, still very effective to this day.  The Bonefish Special was developed by Bonefish specialist Chico Fernandez.  The Bonefish Special is a great skinny water Bonefish Pattern.  The Bonefish Special was first developed as a unweighted pattern, but is very effective in weighted styles as well.  The Bonefish Special is a must have Bonefish Fly Pattern in any Bonefish Fly Box.  Especially if you are planning a trip to Mexico, where Bonefish frequent the super skinny flats.

EP Micro Crab

The EP Micro Crab is a perfect small crab pattern for bonefish, redfish and permit developed by Enrico Puglisi.  The EP Micro Crab was designed to fool spooky fish in shallow water.  The light weight beadchain eyes allows for the fly to land softly in skinny water.  The EP Micro Crab can be tied in several color variations.  Tan, Olive and Rootbeer are the most popular color patterns, but Gray and Purple have also been known to catch fish!  Have fun and take your time with this fly.  Once tied and glued, the EP Micro Crab is super durable and will catch a ton of fish!!

DNA Gotcha

The DNA Gotcha is a killer Bonefish Fly Pattern.  The DNA Gotcha imitates a small shrimp, crab or tiny baitfish.  All of which are favorite prey for hungry Bonefish.  The DNA Gotcha can be tied in many different colors, with the Shrimp, Tan, Pink and Chartreuse being the favorite among most fly fishers.  The DNA Gotcha has the perfect blend of translucency and flash, making it the perfect Bonefish fly!  Do not be fooled by the fly when dry!  Once the DNA Gotcha is in the water, you will not be able to believe the movement and realistic nature of this pattern!

EP Crab

The EP Crab is one of the best crab imitations for Permit, Bonefish and Redfish.  The EP Crab is the updated version to the classic Merkin’s Crab.  The EP Crab uses the durable EP Fibers for the body and has more life like legs and tail.  The EP Crab can be tied in so many variations, colors and sizes.  Most of the EP Crabs have the color Tan incorporated into them, but other colors can be used to tie Blue Crab and Sand Crab imitations.  In this video, we will tie the EP with a Crustaceous Brush.  This is a fast and efficient way to tie EP Crabs.  The EP Crab is a must have in the salt, so get to work!!!

Turneffe Crab

The Turneffe Crab (also known as the Belize Crab) is a incredible small crab pattern for Bonefish and Permit.  The Turneffe Crab is generally tied small, about a #6-#8 and really works well on picky Bonefish.  The Turneffe Crab in this video was tied in a Cream/Sand color.  But the Turneffe Crab is very effective in Tan, Brown and Olive.  Give the Turneffe Crab a try.  They are one of the easier crab patterns to tie and also one of the more effective!!

Peterson Spawning Shrimp

The Peterson Spawning Shrimp is a killer Bonefish fly and one of my top Bonefish flies!!  The Peterson Spawning Shrimp is not an easy fly to tie, not because of it’s difficulty, but mainly due to the many materials and steps.  The Peterson Spawning Shrimp is a life like Mantis Shrimp imitation that will fool any fish cruising the flats.  Originally tied for Bonefish, the Peterson Spawning Shrimp also fools Permit, small Tarpon and Redfish!  The Peterson Spawning Shrimp can be tied heavy with lead eyes, or lighter with beadchain eyes.  A must have fly in any Bonefish Fly Box!

Cracked Crab

The Cracked Crab is a great Bonefish, Redfish and Permit fly pattern.  The Cracked Crab imitates a juvenile crab or injured crab, which is an easy meal for a hungry Bonefish or Permit.  The Cracked Crab can be tied in many sizes and weights, but a size #06 or #04 is the most common size for Bonefish.  The Cracked Crab can also be tied in many different colors, although the sand color is the traditional color the fly is tied in.

EP Fleeing Crab

The EP Fleeing Crab is a “fleeing” crab imitation developed by Enrico Puglisi.  The EP Fleeing Crab imiates a crab in motion as it is moving away from predators.  The EP Fleeing Crab is the perfect bonefish crab pattern, but it also works well on Redfish and Permit.  The EP Fleeing Crab can be tied in 3 main colors: Sand, Tan and Olive.  The Fleeing Crab can also be tied in 2 sizes, a Size #01 and #02.   A really fun and easy realistic crab pattern!!

The Bonefish Dink is a great fly for Bonefish in skinny water.  The Arctic Fox, used on the Bonefish Dink, is a incredibly soft and supple material.  The Arctic Fox pulses and moves in the water, enticing a picky Bonefish into eating.  The Bonefish Dink can be tied in many colors.  White/Chartreuse, White/Pink, White/Orange and Pink/Chartreuse are the most common and best colors to the Bonefish Dink in.  The Bonefish Dink most commonly tied small.  In either a size #06 or #08.

EP Spawning Shrimp

The EP Spawning Shrimp is a great Bonefish, Permit and Redfish Shrimp pattern.  The EP Spawning Shrimp is very easy to tie, due to the use of the innovative EP Shrimp Dub Brush.  The EP Spawning Shrimp in this video is tied in the “Transparent” White Color, but the Ep Shrimp is also very effective in Tan, Olive and Pink.  Match the color of the legs to the color of the body, and you will end up with one deadly shrimp pattern every time!  For shallow water use, tie with Beadchain Eyes and for deep water use, tie with heavier Lead or Brass Eyes.
