Downtown Denver Carp | March 21, 2012

Date: March 21, 2012
Chatfield Flow: 23 CFS
Water Temp: 50 Degrees
Flies: #06-12 San Juan Worm, 8mm Chartreuse Troutbeads, 6mm Cheese

The South Platte River is warming up!  The carp are beginning to move around and get active.  Things are by no means in full swing yet, but they are well underway.  The fish are still piled into the deeper runs and holes.  Sight fishing is still difficult, we are mainly relying on blind nymphing and prospecting runs.  Worms continue to be the most productive pattern, no secrets there.  Today was another cold day, so it should be better as it gets warmer.  Caught an amazing fish today.  Big mirror carp are not all that common, especially when they are BIG.  Caught him on a 8mm Chartreuse Troutbead.  Water was a little off color, so I went bright and he found it!  Check it out below!
