Arkansas River Pueblo Report | Feb. 27, 2012

Date: Feb 27, 2012
Flow: 75 CFS
Water Temp: 43 Degrees
Flies: #20-22 Johnny Flash, #20-24 Black Beauty, #18-20 Pheasant Tail, #20-22 Miracle Nymph, 6mm Glow Roe Troutbead

Had a incredible day with Chris today.  Forecast called for 40mph winds, but we lucked out!   Once we were on the river, there was no wind at all.  Thank goodness the forecast actually worked in our favor.  Fishing was good today.  Midges continue to be the name of the game.  A #20-22 Miracle Midge was the hot fly.  Thanks to Chris for having several tied up.  The midge larvae are still small, but are getting bigger.

Today was the day for monsters, but we were able to catch a steady stream of descent fish.  Today was the first day I resorted to 6X.  The water is incredibly clear and the bug are small.  I still fished 4X to my egg and the fish did not seem to mind too much.  Caught a couple fish on the black beauty as well.  Not too many people on the river, but we did see a few anglers lower down.  Water temps are still cold, in the low to mid 40’s.  Can’t wait for spring!
